ABOUT

ME!

* I was born in Harlem and I am still a resident of this beautiful place. I have been performing all my life. Being an artist isn’t something you learn - it’s something you’re born into. Early on in my life, I realized that I had to express myself through art, and I’ve been performing ever since.

My work has been featured everywhere from classrooms, churches, and community centers to professional stages, film, and T.V.

I did not study acting in college, as matter of fact I didn't know I could make a living as a performer. The thought never crossed my mind. Well, I knew of the greats like Dianne Carrol and Sidney Poitier and other Hollywood actors of color, but lil old me from the Johnson Projects (El Barrio) in New York City didn't think I had a chance. So I must acknowledge and pay homage to Tunde Samuels who produced shows at the National Black Theater (NBT), Ms. Gertrude Jeannette stage and film actress and founder of the Hadley Players, and Nathan George all of whom believed in my talent early on and gave me a platform when I was just beginning to pursue acting. Their belief in me and constant encouragement, along with others, helped to shape the actress I am today!

Recent roles include:

SHEILA ERVIN on the American Crime Drama FBI/CBS.

QUEEN SUGAR in HALFWAY BITCES GO STRAIGHT TO HEAVEN at The Atlantic Theater written by Pulitzer award winner Stephen Adly Guirgis and directed by actor extraordinaire John Ortiz

BLACK ADLEAN in BARBECUE at the Public Theater written by Award-winning writer Robert O’Hara and directed by Kent Gash

DORIS STEVENSON/RUBY in MILLER, MISSISSIPPI,  at the Alley Theater and The Long Wartf theater  written by Boo Killebrew and directed by Lee Sunday Evans

ACTOR 3 in BOOTY CANDY was written and directed by Robert O’Hara at Playwrights Horizon for which I won a 2015 Obie Award

* When I'm not performing I enjoy photography! I LOVE taking pictures and documenting events, places, and people. I am currently working on several projects that will feature my work.

* Fun Fact:

One of my earlier desires was to become a nun. I went to  Catholic school for 12 years. I am sure I would not have made the cut! :-) I did get the opportunity to play a Nun on the hit series  Gotham!

* I learned to listen to my instincts and I’m glad I did.  I am a proud member of A.E.A and  S.A.G./A.F.T.R.A.  and a member of The Actors Center I have tremendous support from my wonderful husband, family, and friends. And I am forever grateful.

* My philosophy:

Follow your dreams and follow your heart. Believe in yourself and others will believe in you as well and once a day...
